Rick Feneley new editor of The Sun-Herald
Fairfax Media has gone for an internal candidate as the new editor of Sydney Sunday paper The Sun-Herald after a six week recruitment process.
Rick Feneley, currently a senior writer and part-time Sunday editor on The Sydney Morning Herald, will take the role in a fortnight’s time.
Fairfax Media launched the hunt after standing down Simon Delhunty last month and promoting SMH editor Peter Fray to editor-in-chief of both titles.
Fray said: “Rick is one of our most accomplished and respected journalists, and brings to his new position deep experience across production and reporting. We’re delighted to have appointed such an ideal candidate to this key role in Fairfax’s Sydney publishing operations.”
He’s right, it is a challenge. And the “exciting” part will be how long he keeps his job if the numbers keep declining at their present rate. It’ll be very interesting to see what innovations are rolled out to stop the rot.
