Rob Cooper: Twitter is dangerous but celebs and those in the public eye need it

Publicist Rob Cooper, the man behind the “most hated woman in Britain” Josie Cunningham, has said that anyone in the public eye who does not use Twitter properly is “a fool”.
Speaking at the CommsCon conference in Sydney today, the club promoter turned publicist, said social media gives Cunningham a platform and a voice which allows the pair to keep the “momentum going” in terms of her coverage by traditional and non-traditional press.
“Anyone in the public eye who aren’t using Twitter properly – they’re fools,” he said. “The more things are moving more online we need something to keep the momentum moving. With Twitter it gives us a real platform.”
I wonder about diminishing returns. If Brand Josie is about ‘uneducated, trashy and tabloidy’, then to maintain relevance in this environment means she will need to keep ramping it up. Speaking to her mum and dreading the day her children get bullied is not nearly enough to assuage Cooper’s responsibility. Josie appears to be a piece of plasticine in his hands and once she has served her purpose for him, she gets stuck with the results for the rest of her life and he just moves on to another piece of plasticine.

Ok, so I am in media/ comms and need to stay current and relevant, but I rather think I’m missing nothing by missing this !
Who is Josie Cunningham ? And do we care about her tweets ! Is she really famous ! Obviously not enough trashy mags here to bid for her “story.” Whenever a pollie tweets I always presume a staffer is doing it for them like other “famous” people. We are not fools.
