Sage Steven Allen’s prediction: Masterchef ratings will be down. Or up
When it comes to talking about media, few can beat Steven Allen, perhaps the only industry practitioner who can give Harold Mitchell a run for his money when it comes to comment ubiquity.
But what does the future mean for Masterchef after the elimination of contestant Marion Grasby?
Allen certainly has a strong view, even if it’s subject to change.
On Friday, Allen was pessimistic for Ten what Grasby’s would do to ratings, with the Tele reporting:
“Media strategist Steven Allen said some viewers would most certainly switch off. “There’s been a lot of commentary and online chatter that contestants this year are not as appealing as last. With the favourite gone, you will see a difference in audience figures,” Mr Allen said, predicting a drop of 5 per cent.”
On Sunday, Allen told the Herald-Sun:
”A lot of people presumed she was going to win, but with her gone the competition is now wide open. There’s no favourite, the outcome is not pre-ordained and that makes this a much more interesting competition to watch … which means more people may be inclined to do so.”
What will Mr Allen predict next? The competition is certainly wide open.
