SBS launches online forum and TV debate on ethnic diversity
SBS has launched a new portal to be followed by a televised forum about ethnic diversity in Australia.
SBS CQ: Cultural Intelligence will engage media commentators, politicians and community advocates for a discussion on whether the media is friend or foe of diversity in Australia.
Michael Ebeid, managing editor of SBS said: “SBS is the catalyst for the national discussion about diversity and SBS CQ will become a conversation series as well as a permanent resource.”
Commentators include former immigration minister Amanda Vanstone, Daily Telegraph journalist Joe Hildebrand, psychiatrist and journalist Tanveer Ahmed and university professor Andrew Markus.
I know it’s not directly related to the piece, but I’ve found Tanveer Ahmed to be one of the more interesting emerging talking heads in Australian media.
I like it’s called Cultural Intelligence. Which usually means the knowledge, motivation and skills you need to be effective across cultures. Sounds like this forum will go beyond discussion to supporting multiculturalism. I’m hopeful!
Like to see more of Tanveer Ahmed airing his thoughts. This man is so worldly he cuts through the racism tags and understands it is no problem in this country.
He simply sees differences in people’s values and attitudes which can be the underlying problems we will face.
I’m of firm belief that most “normal” citizens in this country would rather live next door to respectful well mannered people than their own colour and creed.
