SBS switches A-League to main channel after pressure from football authorities
SBS will switch its live Friday night A-League football from SBS Two to SBS One following pressure from Football Federation Australia (FFA) to move coverage to the public broadcaster’s main channel.
It is understood SBS has been lobbied by football authorities who were disappointed that SBS had elected to broadcast its one weekly live match last season on its digital multi channel.
While audiences were regarded as reasonably strong, shifting the coverage to SBS One is expected to deliver a ratings boost and further elevate the game in Australia, on the back of strong ratings for the FIFA World Cup in June and July.
The FFA told Mumbrella it believed the sport deserved to be taken to a wider audience and confirmed it had held talks with the broadcaster.
Odd. SBS One and Two are both Standard Def and have same technical reach. I understand why SBS would want to move it to One (boost TARPs and reach), but what diffence would it make to FFA? I’m flummoxed.
If SBS 1 and 2 are available to all now then what difference does it make? Do SBS 1 people only watch that channel and prefer not to switch? All I know is that the only shows that rate on SBS Fri nights are the Euro porn (or so i am told)
Richard, although technically the same now, SBS One has a larger viewer audience than SBS Two, due mainly to the programmes screened on One.
why dont SBS show a game on fri and sat its gay that you only show one game after 10 years of aleague..how is real football suppose to beat this pathetic gay sport called afl if you only show 1 game per week?? please explain and foxtel can kiss my ass for taking all the coverage away from FTA
