Most social media users believe Schapelle is guilty and media making too much of story
An analysis of sentiment on Facebook and Twitter around Schapelle Corby suggests 46 per cent of people believe she is guilty, 22 per cent that she was innocent, with nearly a third (32 per cent) saying they did not care about the story at all.
Corby’s release from her Bali jail cell has sparked a wave of criticism on social media about Channel Seven’s alleged $1m to $3m payment for interview rights as well as Channel Nine’s move to pit its telemovie Schapelle against Seven’s docudrama about INXS.
Research by social media agency We Are Social shows a quarter (25 per cent) of all discussion focused on how the media is making too much of the story and ignoring more important stories such as the Victorian bushfires as a result.
Tweeters also hit out about Channel Seven’s reported deal with Corby for interview rights. Comedians, sports stars, news outlets, journalists and users making political statements accounted for the most retweeted comments.
Yes, it’s about time visual media woke up to this. People are sick of seeing whining losers and their pathetic families who give nothing positive to society and are rewarded for their tales of wrongdoing.
In stead of giving a convicted drug smuggler that nobody cares about $3million, channel 7 should be giving that money to the homeless. thats whats going to win them ratings, not an interview with a drug mule
They are making a hero out of this woman, it stinks. Giving her three million dollars, her and her family are probably thinking it was worth the nine years.
I think its disgusting channel 7 is paying millions to a drug smuggler for her story .
so sick of the media glorifying criminals. starting with the whole underbelly crap . not only do you get a movie or series made about you but you also now get paid for it. who says crime doesn’t pay.
Amazing how people are up in arms about Corby being able to get $$$ for telling her story. I bet if those who vote that she should get nohting would be amongst the first to sit down and read or watch the story. If they would turn to a different show, or simply not read the article, then they are at least true to their word, but I bet they won’t. So they, imo, are nothing more than hypocrites (sp?). There’s a saying that 80% of any population have an IQ that’s just average at best. In other words, looking at the numbers of most polls, the 80% / 20% rule seems to apply, 80% (nominal intelligence) are against Corby, 20% (above average intelligence) willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. I wish her all the best in the future and hope those that have acid opinions get their just desserts.
