Screentime: Moving Crownies later is for the best

Screentime has put a brave face on ABC1’s decision to move its legal drama Crownies to a later timeslot half way through its run.

The show, promoted as “Sex, Lies and Magistrates” featuring the lives of young solicitors , has struggled to pull audiences.

It was announced earlier this month that Crownies would be pushed back to 9.30pm to make way for The Slap.

Was a little hesitant to watch Crownies – mainly because of the publicity – Sex, Lies & Magistrates. I’m not in the young demographic and the advertising made me think this show would not be for me. BUT, I really like this show. The scripts are strong, production is great and the mainly young cast are mostly very good. A couple of characters don’t appeal, but on the whole very good. Congrats to everyone involved.

Crownies is okay, but would have benefited greatly from a short first season so that changes could be made before committing to too many episodes. A 22-episode order for a genre that is pretty unproven on the ABC was a pretty ill-informed gamble.
