Second Ashes Test delivers better score for broadcasters, same dud result for England
Steve Smith won the test for Australia, Seven, Foxtel, Westpac, and more
As Steve Smith hit the winning runs for Australia at the end of the Second Test, deep into prime time on Sunday night, cricket rights holders Seven, Foxtel Group, SCA, SEN and their respective commercial partners wore big grins.
While they might be happy about the 2-0 scoreline so far for The Ashes, they were pleased their brand messaging had reached big audiences over four days after the Perth Test wrapped in just two days.
While day four finished early, it was close to 9pm in the biggest TV markets when Seven’s James Brayshaw and Ricky Ponting called the result. On Kayo Sports, Adam Gilchrist and his colleagues had given their audience and sponsors four days of Test action — albeit, at times, in a rather one-sided clash.
