Set top box launch to bring cost of HbbTV ‘in line with streaming services’ claims Freeview
The cost of accessing the HbbTV FreeviewPlus service could be about to fall in developments that could have a “significant” impact on the amount of people watching the service.
Free-to-air TV industry body Freeview said it was “close” to launching the set top boxes and personal video recorders (PVR) that will make consumer’s existing TV’s “smarter”, with indications it could have a price point of around $140.
It will enable consumers to connect to Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV (HbbTV), the new online platform on which the Freeview technology sits, without the need to buy a new TV.
set top box? If it was the 90’s,maybe. Can some one send Freeeview a calender.
snigger.
Another new freeview product. to be superseded in 12 months with another new freeview product that will change the industry and previous versions useless. this was never going to work.
UMMMM y’all know this is nothing to do with streaming or catch-up tv and all about being able to blast more ads and get real-time metrics for advertisers?
What a fail.
What is freeview?
Give it up Freeview, nobody cares.
Try saying “HbbTV FreeviewPlus service” 3x times really fast.
Freeview please stop chasing the puck. Just get yourselves on AppleTV.
Chasing a horse that has bolted!!! The FTA’s will need to move faster than Freeview in future if they want to maintain their market dominance.
maybe give the guys at tivo a call, might get some boxes real cheap
How misguided some articles can be…. “We are going to probably be the first country to have a set top box and PVR” –
Humax Digital run the Humax 4Tune in Australia, better / newer / replaced our Tivo / FreeviewPlus compatible / released late 2014 with 4 HD Tuners, 1TB HDD, Bluetooth, inbuilt Wi-Fi, HBBtv 1.5 and much more.
Just why FreeView Plus would snub their noses and NOT give Humax full certification is anyone’s guess??…. maybe because they are still considering who to give nods to or maybe because they are jealous that Humax Australia has somehow beat them to their own punch, or punch-lines.
Isn’t FreeviewPVR an oxymoron? Freeview is all about not skipping ads whereas a PVR…….
Not only has the horse bolted but the stables are now a carpark.
