Seven to air Hopman Cup on 7mate
The Seven Network has announced it will broadcast the Hyundai Hopman Cup on digital channel 7Mate in the wake of Network Ten’s decision to drop the event after failing to agree with organisers over scheduling.
While Hopman organisers appeared not welcome a push by the Ten Network to move the Hopman Cup to one of Ten’s secondary digital channels Eleven and One, the event will now be broadcast on Seven’s digital channel 7mate, with the option of marquee matches to be televised live on Seven.
Seven’s head of sport Saul Shtein said in a statement: “We are delighted to be expanding our commitment to tennis across the summer and importantly delivering live coverage of the Hyundai Hopman Cup on our broadcast television platform.”
It’s not really an event that people look forward to. I’ve never heard anyone say, “oh man, let’s watch the Hopman Cup!”
Finally, hockey getting the coverage it deserves in this country.
