Seven confirms newsroom redundancies

sevenNetwork Seven has this morning confirmed a number of staff redundancies in its Sydney newsroom and the consolidation of its investigation unit.

The restructure of the newsroom was announced to staff this morning by director of news Rob Raschke in an email which read: “There will be some changes in roles for staff working in the news investigative unit; and there will be a small number of roles which may become redundant as part of the re-allocation of resources within News and Public Affairs.”

It is thought the changes will lead to the loss of around 10 positions on the east coast, with most of the redundancies thought to be among the staff who previously worked on current affairs show Today Tonight, however the TV network also emphasised that it was expanding its coverage in the battleground states of Adelaide and Perth where Seven is facing renewed competition from Nine.

The move is another blow for TV news after Network Ten revealed last month is was slashing dozens of jobs in its news division to cut costs.
