Seven loses court bid to get Nine’s The Hotplate taken off air over copyright infringement
Seven Network has failed in its bid to have rivals Nine Network take reality show The Hotplate off-air with a court today dismissing an application for an injunction against the show.
This afternoon in the Federal Court Justice Nicholas ruled Nine did not have to take the show off air ahead of a full hearing as to whether it infringes on the copyright of Seven’s flagship show My Kitchen Rules.
Seven launched the action after its own Restaurant Revolution format failed to fire in competition with The Hotplate, which has been pulling primetime audiences in excess of 900,000 a night, forcing the TV network to find new content as it moved the show to Thursday nights.
Lawyers feeding frenzy coming up
This article confirms there is little originality in Australian made TV getting prime time on our screens. I recently started watching FTA whilst on maternity leave and I am appalled by the number of copycat shows about cooking, home renovations and who can perform the best. I’m not saying these formats don’t have a place, but come on, how many seasons of slightly altered variations of the same shows do we need to endure? There are so many talented content producers out there with a myriad of original and creative ideas that will engage. Its time for something new!!
Sick of tired of shows where the only options are that people cook it, renovate it or ask women to throw themselves at a guy and marry it!
Then there’s the X Factor/ Voice genre of over-singing the crap out of torch songs and throw in a massive key change to thunderous applause. Apparently that’s called talent.
The X Factor has successfully helped many people further their career. Just talk to Ricky Martin or the Madden Brothers. They will vouch for it.
