Seven tells Warburton: Good luck at Ten, but we’ll hold you to your commitments
If departing Seven commercial supremo James Warburton has been hoping to make an earlier start in his new gig as boss of Ten, his old employers have signalled that won’t happen.
Seven Media Group this afternoon issued a statement from CEO David Leckie wishing Warburton well but emphasising his “contractual commitments”.
Leckie said:
“Seven Media Group wishes James Warburton well in his new role at Ten, which he will be taking up subject to his contractual commitments.
“We’re sorry to lose him.
“We are acknowledged as having the best management team in media – with great people in key roles at Seven, Pacific Magazines and Yahoo!7.
“We’ll be making some announcements in the coming days that will underline and confirm the strength and depth of our management team across Seven Media Group.”
Ten has announced Warburton’s start date as July 14.

Unenforceable non-compete eh?
jw’s contract had expired in jan 2011 fast eddy – negotiations to renew stalled so appears he’s free to go to a competitor.
looking forward to learning about the strength and depth people. They’d better lock the contracts down, most top execs take their team with them.
Looks like some nice pay rises coming in for some key staff in the coming weeks…
