SFF to be closed by mystery Australian film
Tickets for the opening and closing nights of the Sydney Film Festival have gone on sale, one week before the films are even announced.
The closing night film will be “an Australian premiere” on June 14, but the title will not be revealed until May 7. It has been speculated that the chosen title could be The Tree or The Waiting City.
Opening night on June 2 is being promoted as ‘Sydney’s hottest winter film event’, with tickets for the film selling for $20 ($17 concession) and $80 for a film/party package.
“The opening is such a highly anticipated highlight of the festival that it always sells out, so it’s about helping people ensure they can go to the event,” said a SFF spokesperson.
Surely the opening will be John Marsden’s ‘Tomorrow when the War Began.’
I hope ‘Red Hill’ gets a screening, TRUE BLOOD is awesome! xx
Doesn’t “Australian premiere” usually refer to a film which has had its world premiere elsewhere, not necessarily an Australian film.
True. And SFF did not want to confirm which one was correct – Australian film, or ‘Australian premiere’ but some rumours support the former.
Besides, most SFF films, even the low-profile ones, are ‘Australian premieres’, aren’t they? They may have screened somewhere else, but they’re an Australian first.
