Shock wins Tropfest 2010
Abe Forsythe’s short Shock won the first prize at last night’s Tropfest 2010; the award was presented by US actor Elijah Wood.
The 28-year old director said his short, about a morning radio host whose on-air personality conceals the desperation and frustration of his private life, was inspired by radio and TV personality Kyle Sandilands. Forsythe first entered Tropfest when he was 16, and won second place last year with Being Carl Williams.
Shock can be seen here.
The judging panel included Genevieve Clay, Michael & Peter Spierig, Elijah Wood, Toni Collette, and David Michôd.
Called it a week ago. Seems a simple formula to predict. It’s never just about quality.
Particularly in this case.
It reminded me of: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mV1LWhNpTJU
Best of luck to Forsythe though.
Oh definitely congratulations. Winning Trop ain’t nothing to be sneezed at. Now for someone to hand him some more cash to make that, well, second feature (third if you count Computer Boy).
Great to see Gerry Tacovsky winning First Prize in the Telstra Mobile Masterpieces Category.
‘Missing You’ is funny, touching and totally beautiful!
Gerry went to school with my mate Clint and he’s a lovely bloke, as you can see by this movie. I’d just like to know if it’s based on a true story.
Well done Gerry, you deserve it mate!
What is the name of the actor who played the main role in the 2010 Tropfest Winner?
The lead actor is Patrick Brammall. It’s interesting how everybody was talking about the director and the Kyle Sandilands connection yet nobody bothered to credit the actor.
SHOCK may or may not have been the best film on the night, but how did it also win Best Comedy? Call me old fashioned, but comedies for me are things that make you laugh. Have I missed something?
I don’t think there’s much to be missed in this short film. It’s as one-dimensional as they come!
totally agree, shock clearly had something, but humour was not it.
Least it didn’t feature autism or down syndrome?
A reflection of society as a whole. Filling our lives with meaningless crap and expecting to find contentment. I’m a bit disappointed the director didn’t even see this.
