Sky News posts best half-yearly results on record ahead of Alan Jones show’s debut
Ahead of the launch of Alan Jones’ new show tonight, Sky News has posted its best half-yearly results on record, becoming Foxtel’s number one channel for 22 consecutive weeks.
The channel’s average all day audience is up by 31%, for a share of 2.9%, up 0.7 share points year on year. Primetime average audience, meanwhile, increased by 22%, an increase of 0.6 share points to 2.5% share.
Jones’ new weeknight show, which will air at 8pm four nights a week, was announced last month soon after he retired from talkback radio, citing medical reasons. The former host of 2GB’s breakfast show was already a Sky News host – featuring on programs including Richo & Jones and Jones & Credlin – but has now signed an exclusive agreement with the channel.
This should be ringing alarm bells – Fox News turned the US into a basket case based on this business model.
Congrats to the Sky News Team who continue to forge ahead and provide great news coverage. AJ will only help bolster ratings further. Well played.
Great news coverage requires quality independent journalism. Don’t see how AJ fits in with that.
Should be a good cross section of views from Sky with Jones, Bolt and Credlin.Doesn’,t look even remotely like a right wing propaganda machine
It is important to look at the absolute numbers and not get too excited about percentage increases. They are a good headline and indicate growth but perhaps draw attention away from the real reach.
For example, First Edition has increased it’s weekly audience by 44% to 213,000 unique viewers a week. Well done, but this would indicate that it was doing around 150,000 a week prior To this survey result.
Another way of considering this is against a population of 25.5M people in Australia and saying 99%+ of Australians don’t watch First Edition on Sky News in Andy given week.
Viewed this way I don’t think anyone would get too excited about the power and influence of Sky News.
25.5 million includes children under 18 years whom make up a large % of the population…..the numbers clearly state a very good result
Shows starting with Credlin all the way through to Paul Murray are so biased again anyone but the Liberal party it is actually sickening. Whilst they think they are so important the fact that the overall audience share is so small makes them totally irrelevant to what’s going on in the real world. ?
