Sorry for our World Cup balls up, says Optus in newspaper ads
A fortnight after its World Cup streaming disaster began, Optus has published full-page apologies to the public.
The ads appear in today’s newspapers, with an open letter attributed to Optus CEO Allen Lew in The Australian Financial Review and The Australia. A simpler version has been produced for News Corp’s tabloid readers.
The upmarket version of the ad, signed by Lew, says:
Dear Australia,
What’s truly baffling is why Optus thought that denying millions of fans the opportunity to watch the World Cup was a good idea in the first place. Odd.
Also baffling is why Optus didn’t put a hyphen in ‘balls up’ and ‘stuff up’.
Really? Why?
Has Optus (or anyone) released the actual figures of complaints received/affected users as a proportion?
In the back of my mind I can’t help but think there was a mass pile on from people not using the service at all…
Can’t PR afford a dictionary?
Because optus is owned by Singtel a company which doesn’t give a shit what their customers think so long as there is money coming onto their pockets
I think what’s also missing in the greater media narrative about this is the fact that SBS’ streaming worked perfectly. In fact you could log into their app as an Optus customer and still see Optus’ streams perfectly.
