Southpaw and Vacation both unseat Trainwreck at the top of the Australian box office

The fifth instalment of National Lampoon’s Vacation topped the Australian box office on the weekend pulling in $1.65m across 299 screens.

Vacation performed well but was beaten on a revenue per cinema basis by boxing drama Southpaw, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Forest Whitaker and Rachel Adams, taking $1.54m from 193 locations.

Both films managed to knock off Amy Schumer’s comedy Trainwreck which has been at the top of the charts for several weeks, taking $1.26m on the weekend, having now taken $11.3m at cinemas across the country.
