Spielberg’s Pentagon Papers biopic The Post earns $2.5m from Australian audiences on opening weekend
Steven Spielberg’s latest film The Post made more than $2.5m on its opening weekend at the Australian box office, although its earnings were well behind that of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Starring Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks, The Post tells the true story of the journalists from The Washington Post who published the Pentagon Papers revealing the US government’s Vietnam War failings.
According to the Motion Picture Distributors Association of Australia report, the film took $1.846m over the weekend.
Last Jedi has reached 4th place on the all time box office list.
Jumanji will score Sony’s 2nd biggest total ever behind Skyfall’s 49 million when it passes Spectre’s 36.2 million.
And Coco looks sure to join fellow 2017 release Cars 3 (13.3 million) as the worst 2 performers in Pixar’s 19 title history.
