‘W.T. actual F is this hot mess’: Spotify Wrapped – CMO edition

Spotify Wrapped is back for another year, and so is Spotify Wrapped: CMO edition.

Today, Mumbrella is giving you an inside look into Australia’s leading marketing professionals’ favourite songs of 2024.

Ruth Haffenden, chief marketing officer, Boody

2 Be Loved (Am I Ready) – Lizzo

You’ve Never Had Chcolate Like This (Hoverchocs) – Timothee Chalamet

Dance The Night – Dua Lipa

Hold My Hand – Jess Glynne

Bad Liar – Selena Gomez

“Whilst my initial reaction to this list was, ‘W.T. Actual F is this hot mess’, Upon reflection, Spotify, as always, has perfectly captured the year in milestones and memories from unexpected angles.  The cries of “Wonka songs Mummy!” from the back of the car, that started early in the year; the sheer joy of belting out show tunes with my little backseat girl band. The ironic humming of “I’m trying, I’m trying, I’m trying, I’m trying” along with Selena Gomez at the start of every training run, that got me through my first half marathon,” Haffenden said.

“Wrapped never fails to tell the micro moments of your year far better than you could ever recall.”

Leigh Barnes, chief customer officer, Intrepid Travel

U should not be doing that – Amyl and the Sniffers

Affirmation Song – Doggyland and Snoop Dogg

Turpentine – Blink 182

Milkumana – King Stingray

Dancer – Idles and LCD Soundsystem

“For me is all about the memories and stories from the year gone by,” Barnes explained.

“Each song takes me back to a time or place from the year. Singing with my daughter, travelling overseas, hanging with friends or dancing like no one is watches with my wife in the kitchen. Listening back always gets me nostalgic for the year gone by. And it gives me a little moment to reflect, which is pretty cool.”

Naysla Edwards, vice president, customer marketing and member experience, AMEX ANZ

Us (ft. Taylor Swift) – Gracie Abrams

Fortnight (ft. Post Malone) – Taylor Swift

WILDFLOWER – Billie Eilish

I Can Do It Without a Broken Heart – Taylor Swift

Guilty as Sin? – Taylor Swift

“Music gets me out of bed, takes me through the day and puts me back to bed, I simply could not live life without it! No surprises here, my daughter Issy and I are massive fans of Taylor Swift and we love listening to her at home, in the car, at work, everywhere,” Edwards explained.

“I am delighted also that in my top artist list is La Oreja de Van Gogh which is my favorite Spanish band! It brings me closer to home to sing in my beautiful language. Thank you Spotify, always a delight to get my annual Wrapped.”

Peter Chapman, chief marketing officer, Reflections Holidays

Never Going Back Again (2004 Remaster) – Fleetwood Mac

Rich Girl – Daryl Hall & John Oates

Days Like This – Van Morrison

Weather With You – Crowded House

Everywhere (2017 Remaster) – Fleetwood Mac

“Wrapped is great. It’s truthful in the same way kids are or listening to a recording of your voice is. It’s the truth about you, not the version of your self you construct in your brain.”

Andrew Agbay, senior media lead, Microsoft

Birds of a Feather – Billie Eilish

Yellow – Coldplay

Cruel Summer – Taylor Swift

She Will Be Lived – Maroon 5

Breakeven – The Script

“I attended an event last night, and when I got home, my kids excitedly informed me that Spotify Wrapped was out and asked me to check my top songs,” Agbay said.

“Initially, I wasn’t sure why ‘Birds of a Feather,’ ‘Cruel Summer,’ and ‘Good Luck, Babe!’ were included in my top songs, but it turns out my kids have been using my Spotify account more than I realised! Overall, Spotify Wrapped 2024 has been a fun and insightful experience.”

Rob Farmer, chief marketing officer, Australian Pork

Lunch – Billie Eilish

Chihiro – Billie Eilish

Like Sugar – Chaka Khan

Bodysnatchers – Radiohead

Feel so Good – Mase

“I love my Spotify, and Wrapped is such a great initiative to remind how deeply entwined our lives, music and the service are. My top 10 fairly reflects my love of Billie’s latest, and old school classics.”

Louise Crompton, vice president, marketing and growth, Paramount+ Australia

Streets – Doja Cat

Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) – Kate Bush

Lavender Haze – Taylor Swift

If I ever Lose My Faith In You – Sting

Set Adrift On Memory Bloss – P.M. Dawn

“Love the Wrapped time of the year! A mix of old and new in my list this year. I’m sure some of the new was influenced by school drop off tunes! Not surprised by the addition of Tay Tay this year, what a pop juggernaut her tour was. Who knew in March I went through my “Surf Crush Roller Skating Pop Season!”

Bryan Wilmot, chief marketing officer, Stake

Work Song – Hozier

How Long Will I Love You – Ellie Goulding

Lose You To Love Me – Selena Gomez

Smells Like Me – Charlie Puth

And So It Goes – Billy Joel

“Seemingly a Spotify Wrapped that mirrors my musical endeavors – or at least attempted endeavors! A friend and I were fortunate enough to be asked to sing the wife-to-be of a mate of ours down the aisle at their wedding (this weekend). The song of choice is ‘Work Song’, and so it takes top spot thanks to my ongoing attempts to sing along in tune as rehearsal this year,” Wilmot said.

“In fifth place was a Billy Joel song I unsuccessfully tried to learn on the piano in 2024. I’m maybe 20% there. And in between are seemingly tunes that got the single-song repeat treatment that I give songs I become hooked on while tapping away at the laptop.”
