Stan announces exclusive Showtime deal
Stan has signed long-term exclusive licensing deal with CBS’s Showtime, as the Australian streaming video on demand (SVOD) player seeks to challenge the might of Netflix in the market.
Among the new franchises included in the deal are series Billions, Halo and Twin Peaks, with Showtime seen as the major challenger to US cable giant HBO, which is aligned with Foxtel in this market.
“Showtime is one of the world’s greatest creators of television programming and we are delighted to enter this long-term partnership, cementing our position as Australia’s leading local SVOD service,” said Mike Sneesby, CEO of Stan.
Under the output deal Foxtel and Presto retain rights to existing Showtime shows like Ray Donovan, Penny Dreadful, The Affair with the SVOD rights only moving to Stan 18 months after the show airs.
Good news. Stan’s a good service and fast tracking Billions is spot on.
This is huge, Showtime have been producing some of the best content over the past few years.
I’m going to sign back up to Stan
“Among the franchises included in the deal are series such as Homeland, Weeds, Dexter and The Affair” – hasn’t Stan been carrying most of these for months?
I’m going to create another free 3 month trial! That’ll cover me.
Wow – it’s only $10 per month for a huge amount of content, stop being so freakin cheap.
I’m super-confused by this. Penny Dreadful season 3 starts in May – will Stan have that from the get-go? The Presto statement implies they won’t; if so, what does Stan actually have now that makes it worth getting?
