Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker takes almost $18m in opening weekend
The final Star Wars film in the Skywalker Saga and a culmination of 42 years of Star Wars movies, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, has taken $17.962m in its opening week across 1,056 screens, after securing an opening day of $6.41m.
That’s the lowest opening day of any of the three most recent films, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi both beat it with $9.45m and $7.06m respectively, not including the spin-offs Rogue One and Solo.

I enjoyed it. Box office fatigue isn’t surprising after Disney botched the franchise with The Last Jedi. That film was popular with critics trained in Pomo ideology, whose first concerns are “subverting expectations” and diversity casting. But the core fans who just wanted a good story that was true to the legendary characteristics of the saga were left alienated. Flooding the market with money-grubbing crap like Solo added another nail to the coffin. Kathleen Kennedy needs to go.
