Streaming numbers leap for 2GB and 3AW

Talkback listeners are embracing the shift to digital as Nine’s suite of talk stations all posted a sizable leap in its streaming audiences.

Nine’s talk stations have seen an overall 20% jump in streaming, year-on-year, with Sydney’s 2GB up 27%, and Melbourne’s 3AW seeing an 18% increase.

In April, Nine’s talk stations were streamed for 10.7 million hours, with Nine’s catch up podcasts for tentpole shows Ben Fordham Live, and the Ray Hadley Morning Show each posting year-on-year listener growth of 44%. 3AW’s football catch up podcast has leaped by 17%, year-on-year.

“These numbers highlight talk radio’s unequivocal dominance in live streaming and catch up and show our audience is only getting bigger,” said Greg Byrnes, Nine Radio’s head of content.

“We know Australians turn to talk in times of crisis, and that’s been reinforced with recent breaking news events, but they also rely on us for entertainment, excitement and analysis.”

Byrnes predicts the combination of their footy coverage and the upcoming Paris Olympic Games will lead to “unprecedented” streaming numbers.
