Street press publisher to rebrand iconic titles under national masthead The Music
One of Australia’s biggest free street press publishers has unveiled a radical revamp of its portfolio which will see its various city-based titles replaced by a single, editionised brand.
Street Press Australia will unite all of its titles under the single The Music brand which already exists online.
Mastheads being replaced are The Drum in Sydney and Perth, Inpress in Melbourne and Time off in Brisbane.
The new look title will hit the streets in just under a fortnight. The move will also signal a widening of the titles’ focus into more general lifestyle coverage including food and culture..
No doubt all the production and editorial staff made redundant due to consolidating these already anaemic titles will be “excited at these developments” as well.
The changes at SPA have been made with zero redundancies. So, yes, production and editorial staff are excited.
Great to hear Street Press is moving with the times. Plenty of fond memories of poring over Time Off in my students days in Brisbane. Also SPA deserves props for giving a foot onto the ladder to so many budding writers! Onwards and upwards
It makes a lot of sense to unite all the publications. But it’s especially interesting to see the publication open up to a broader range of journalism. Perhaps it could be a new place for cutting-edge articles that the mainstream titles have to turn down?
The Drum Media is the country’s most respected name in street press. I get that they needed to gloss it up and “unite” the titles, but if you’re going to change it all to one name, wouldn’t you at least go with the strongest one? Vote 1 for Drum Media Australia!
Because nothing can “signal a widening of the titles’ focus into more general lifestyle coverage including food and culture” like naming a publication specifically The MUSIC.
It’s great to see that SPA have made a decision to combine all of their offering in to a refreshed publications. Even in a world dominated by digital media publications, I still love to flick through a mag to kick bag. The Music rocks as a title. Good stuff boys.
Well played guys, well played. Nice to see you prospering without burning so many people as another street press publisher, proof that nice guys don’t finish last methinks.
