Sunrise’s Boland plays up news credentials and hits back at claims it’s too “fluffy”
Sunrise executive producer Adam Boland has hit back at critics labelling its relaunch as an attempt to replicate rival the Today show’s strong news credentials, telling Mumbrella the comments are a “cheap shot”.
It comes as Seven prepares to unveil the revamped breakfast show on Monday with a yet-to-be announced new addition to its line-up of presenters.
Changes to the show, which Today’s executive producer Tom Malone has described as “fluffy” and entertainment focused, includes a new set and format.
From Monday, Sunrise will have a greater focus on news in the earlier part of the three-hour show which will now be divided into three parts in a bid to target different demographics during different parts of the morning.
What a load of sh*t. not fluffy?.. seriously.. not fluffy??
Breakfast TV is has surpassed breakfast radio in terms of banality, pointlesness and embarrassing “banter”. and that is saying something!
I have over recent weeks discovered that the abc presents a slightly less puffy “news” breakfast show and thats where im spending more time before work.
Adam boland and anyone else involved in the production of breakfast TV should be forced to actually watch it, i cant imagine they do.. because they wouldnt inflict such crap on the world.
I’m with Crystal on this one. There is more fluff on Sunrise than there is in fairy floss.
What’s wrong with news for news’s sake. By all means cover the days breaking stories but analyse them as well. That’s where ABC News Breakfast excels and the others, Sunrise in particular fail.
With the new ABC News channel coming online later this year the gap between real news and analysis to that of the “newstainment” format that Sunrise and Today seem to want to put out is only going to become a gaping chasm.
Adam Boland needs to watch the compeition and see where the standard is raised, well above Sunrise’s head.
