Sydney becomes the second City of Film
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization has recognised Sydney as an international ‘City of Film’.
“This prestigious international title will build upon our reputation as a world-class centre for film production, promotion and exhibition,” said NSW Minister for the Arts Virginia Judge.
According to a press release from the NSW Government, the City of Film status will “encourage new creative and economic partnerships, while recognising Sydney’s rich film history”.
The announcement was made by Judge and Sydney Mayor Clover Moore, with the presence of Gillian Armstrong, Jan Chapman, Barry Otto and Margaret Pomeranz. The bid was made in January with the support of the City of Sydney, the NSW Government and industry stakeholders.
How the hell does Sydney get this title when there are far more films being shot in Melbourne – What’s more important, to be called ‘a city of film’ or to actually BE a city of film?
If you can’t promote yourself or you city, who will type thing, but really who cares? The other City of Film apparently is Bradford. Like, huh? Where is that? Massive cringe factor here. Just feels a bit silly and embarrassing that Sydney needs to resort to this type of thing. 🙁
Who in the NSW government thinks these stupid titles are important? Maybe actually govern and this “City Of Film” might become a reality rather than sounding like a trashy government, embarrassingly late for her role as “Prom Queen” has slapped on some plastic $2 crown pulled out of a dumpster, worn with a ill fitting dress, heavy eye shadow, smeared lipstick and broken high heels…this tragic look a mere result of being corrupted in the car park of bad governance.
