Sydney bids to become a ‘city of film’
The NSW Government is bidding for Sydney to be designated by UNESCO as a City of Film.
NSW Premier Kristina Keneally claimed that a successful bid to join the new program could lead to cultural and work exchange programs, joint festivals and promotional events with other creative cities recognised by the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organisation.
The film city program launched last June with Bradford in the UK so far the only city.
Keneally said it would consolidate Sydney and NSW’s position as “the powerhouse of film production in Australia”.
