Sydney radio ratings: Smooth’s breakfast program moves towards Kiis’ Kyle & Jackie O show
Nova Entertainment’s SmoothFM took the FM ratings win in Sydney for the third survey this year, with its breakfast and drive programs climbing 1.6 and 1.8 ratings points respectively – helping it to edge closer to ARN’s dominant Kyle & Jackie O breakfast show.
SmoothFM gained 1.4 ratings points in its Monday to Sunday audience share, climbing to 11.3% and taking it to an overall win.

Are you joking – Smooth could soon overtake 2GB?! Who expected that when Vega died!
Interesting lift for Smooth, the slow and steady achiever on the FM dial, but its all 2GB for sustained ratings over a few decades
And the 2Day FM-Hit 104.1 spiral continues. Sure, Em being absent for a week would affect the numbers in some way, but the reality is, unless there is a sizeable uptick in the next survey across all programs, Austereo must take a look at its 2Day FM strategy. It is not resonating with audiences during breakfast or across the day, sadly and hasn’t really done so for 3 years. It is not impossible to come back from the bottom of the pile – as Smooth has shown, from nowhere to somewhere in 5 years, but Kyle and Jackie O have been gone from 2Day for 3 years now and 2Day is still – as Katy Perry would say: stumbling around like a wasted zombie. If they cant get their strategy right, or its execution, bring in a team that can.
You could see the 2UE train wreck coming. Sad…a once great station.
2DAYFM should adopt a 100% all R&B format, or a 100% “old school” format across all time slots, and stop trying to copy Nova and Kiss.
As for the breakfast program, maybe they should stop trying to ape Kyle/Jackie O, and just revert to an all music format with a single announcer. The experiment with the two comedians from Melbourne just isn’t working.
Smooth are doing a fantastic job, their marketing strategy is a well targeted one.
As for Nova – surely Fitzy and Wippa are past their used by dates?
I can’t see anyone topping 2GB. Even their fill in anouncers are miles better than anything 2UE or Talking Lifestyle have.
2Day FM was a powerhouse for years when it was the only new music station. But now that Kiis and Nova have arrived. I really see them struggling for a while. Their audience has basically been taken by the newer stations.
They need something to make them completely different.
