Taxi advertising returns to Victoria

Taxi advertisingTaxi advertising group Rova Media has rolled out advertising across the Victorian taxi fleet in Melbourne this week for the first time in over a decade, since this form of outdoor advertising has been allowed in Victoria.

External taxi advertising has not been allowed in Victoria in any form since legislation was passed in 2000 and implemented in 2005.

However, the Victorian Taxi Industry Inquiry in 2011 recommended the reinstatement of taxi advertising to allow taxi operators to earn additional revenue, and new legislation was passed this year.

Graeme Samuel, chief commissioner of the Taxi Services Commission, said allowing external advertising on taxis would bring Victoria into line with most Australian states.
