Technology website Delimiter to close; Founder LeMay ‘I’m kind of done with journalism’
Independent technology website Delimiter is to close, site owner Renai LeMay has announced.
In an article on the site, LeMay said that although Delimiter remained profitable, he had successfully applied to become an adviser to Greens Senator Scott Ludlum and would be relocating from Sydney to Canberra.
He writes:
“It should be obvious that this new position has a direct conflict of interest with my work at Delimiter. As a journalist I have been staunchly independent, attempting to maintain good relationships with all sides of politics and the private sector and holding all to account. However, in my new role I will be directly supporting one side — the Greens — and its interests. And yes, I am now a paid-up member of the Greens political party. Then too, the demanding nature of my new role will preclude any work on Delimiter.
Best of luck Renai, at least I’ll have a friend to hang out with in Canberra now!
How dare he? How could anyone be “done with journalism”? What with its appalling redundancy rates, diminishing titles, crap pay and sweatshop hours, the man’s clearly got no stomach, no zeal for the printed word. Go on, take your cushy public service job and leave the rest of us to our bitterness and broken dreams.
That sucks for the readers but sounds like a great move for Renai. Delimiter does some great reporting. Their coverage of the NBN and the spin from both sides of politics regarding it was really well done.
