Telegraph launches the Truck of Triumph to capitalise on Aussie Ashes win
Sydney’s Daily and Sunday Telegraph newsapers are launching a publicity stunt tomorrow morning pledging to “wipe the Poms from the history books” with the Truck of Triumph as Australia looks to complete a whitewash in the current Ashes test series.
A truck with a giant picture of the England cricket team on it will be touring tourist hotspots in Sydney offering people the chance to paint over the picture with white paint – as the final test match gets underway at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
Acting editor Ben English said in a statement: “England is creating an Ashes debacle this summer it would rather forget. We want to make sure we never will.
They never stop to plumb new lows, do they. Not only is this utterly naff, it won’t sell them one single extra paper either….
Wow. Lame. Desperate. Stupid. And making light of the fall of Singapore and Dunkirk in WWII, in which thousands of English and Australia soldiers died – just wrong.
Hey, if your brand stinks then why not hitch it on to one that’s a winner! I’m pretty sure this wouldn’t have the blessing of Cricket Australia and I’d say there could be slightly murky legal territory here. I couldn’t imagine the brands that pay big dollars to CA would be too impressed by others having a free ride. Unless, of course, News paid for the privilege. But then again, I’m sure their lawyers ran their eye over it. Didn’t they?
Still won’t buy their papers
Jingoism at its worst. Pass. I wouldn’t pay a cent for their paper.
Hey Viewer. It’s cheaper per column centimetre than Sorbent … but Sorbent is a better read.
