Telstra CMO claims ‘quality network’ will avoid Optus EPL-style lag as it launches sports apps
Telstra is starting a new push on its digital sports rights, with a new campaign set to launch this weekend, pushing its overhauled apps for AFL, NRL and the upcoming Netball Super League.
The telco’s head of media and marketing Joe Pollard played down concerns over lag on the live streams which has blighted the enjoyment of Optus’ English Premier League offering for some customers, many of which had to take out a new plan with the network in order to access the package
Pollard told Mumbrella at a launch event in Sydney: “You need to have a quality network to have a quality experience.”
OPTUS EPL is seriously average. The only thing in it’s favour is it isn’t FOXTEL.
They claim – given the EPL is in the middle of the night, it’s ‘On Demand’…but only for the teams they ‘like’ or at a time that suits them – not me.
Buy the rights, improve the presentation and I’m in. Mobile, internet, the lot…oh and Chromecast too thanks.
Have you used the optus app? All of the things you claim here can be done… including chromecast. The comment re lag was interesting as it relates only to their mobile network.. so if you’re stuck on their shoddy copper network you’ll still get lag…. same issue optus had.
Anyway confusing that foxtel still haven’t responded to epl, they lost a lot of customers because they ignored it for too long, or is this foxtel responding via telstra. Hope they still have cash to fund all of this innovation after today disaster on the stock market and 1 BILLION dollars worth of costs coming out of the business
