Ten’s missing Masterchef already, but 7PM Project debut is good enough

The Masterchef effect is over for Ten, with the channel sliding back to its more customary third place in TV viewing share on Monday night.

However, new series The 7PM Project performed reasonably well for the network in what had been the Masterchef slot. The irreverent news show delivered nearly 1.3m viewers and – more importantly for the channel – a 47% share of the 16-39 audience, according to preliminary metro ratings from OzTam. (It is also worth noting that last night’s debut was stronger than the first Monday night of Masterchef in April, which rated less than 1.1m, but went on to become a ratings juggernaut.)

But most of the night belonged to Nine. Eddie McGuire’s Millionnaire Hot Seat came within about 100,000 viewers of Seven’s Deal Or No Deal, while US comedy  Two And A Half Men did okay, particularly the second episode when some viewers moved across from the Seven PM Project.
