The Age’s Don Churchill to write book about the media industry
The veteran publisher of The Age Don Churchill is to begin his retirement by writing a book about his experiences in the media, he told Mumbrella after picking up the trophy for newspaper of the year last night.

When The Age was announced as winner in the 90,000+ circulation category, editor-in-chief Paul Ramadge told the audience Churchill was too modest to come on stage with him. Applause from the audience then persuaded him to do so.
Churchill, chief executive of Fairfax Media’s Melbourne publishing operation and publisher of The Age, retires at the end of the month. Ramadge said: “I’d like to pay special tribute to Don Churchill. Humble, a leader, and someone who led his team to success.”
Churchill told Mumbrella: “I do have a bit of a book in me, about the industry mainly. My 46 years in the industry has been exciting. I’ve met lots of interesting people, some of whom I think should bless the pages of a book which I think is inside me.”
Churchill’s career has spanned Australia and New Zealand. He began as a journalist which included editor of Wellington’s The Evening Post from 1981 to 1987. He was also GM of The Dominion Post, The Christchurch Press and The Nelson Mail, and deputy GM of Wellington Newspapers.
I look forward to Don’s book. Good to see Mumbrella at the PANPA Awards again.
Maybe Don should call the book: Honey I Shrunk The Age.
Writing a book!?
What to call it hmmmmm…
“Everything I wanted to know about running The Age; but was afraid to ask”
That should do it
Should sell well in Wellington
“Ron”, “jumping boy” and “recall” … sound like aliases for a certain Age exec who got dumped from The Age and has run a spiteful campaign against Don Churchill ever since, through Crikey or whoever will pubish his misinformation.
I agree Tom. They will have one less target for their spiteful rhetoric. Hacks like Crook, Simons and other mouthpieces for AC will have to find someone else to lay their hate on
Can’t wait to read the book. Is there any chance we will get to know the release date for it?
What a great carreer, spanning the Tasman. Congratulations. Sounds like some of the detractors should get down to the army surplus store and get an aussie slouch hat, you know the one that has the brim on one side pointing up………… to make room for the chip on the shoulder!!
cheers don
From go to whoa, plenty of hard hours put into such a great 46 year life-story. Well done, and look forward to the book. Perhaps the slouch hat should have both brims up, for those obvious chips on both shoulders! Enjoy your new career. HC
Who would want to read a version of ‘Titanic’ whets the Captain jumps ship?
