The Revenant and Sisters both top the $3m mark but Star Wars still tops the Box Office

Leonardo Di Caprio’s new movie The Revenant took $3.9m in box office sales and Tina Fey/Amy Poehler comedy Sisters took $3.2m in sales but neither could stall the momentum of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The sci-fi film has retained its top billing at the Australian box office but over the weekend be did see its sales slow, raising doubt about whether it will topple the record set by Avatar.

Since Boxing Day the Star Wars franchise has taken just under $80m, with $79.8m in tickets sold, but looks set to fall short of the extra $25m it needs to pass the record set by Avatar in 2009.
