‘The strategy’s changed’: Rove addition to 2DayFM signals new direction says Guy Dobson
The boss of 2DayFM has described the appointment of Rove McManus as the new breakfast host of the struggling Sydney station as “manna from heaven” and hinted his show may start this year.
Southern Cross Austereo’s metro boss Guy Dobson told Mumbrella the appointment completed a strategy shift for the network which he said started with Hamish & Andy’s drive show in July which had happened “out of necessity”.
However he refused to be drawn on what he expected the new-look lineup to do in terms of ratings, saying: “I’ve got no expectations on ratings, I haven’t done on 2DayFM for the last couple of years. All I care about is making sure we put the right show together and it connects with the audience and if we do that the ratings will come.”

Can Rove do to 2DayFM what Merrick, Sophie, Jules, Mel B, Dan, Maz, Hamish and Andy couldn’t?
This article is a great summary of lecture 5, subject 3 of the masters degree in Irrelevancy of Commercial Radio
The main SCA strategy for many years has been 1) call Token or Creative Rep and see who is free. 2) See if they rate. If they don’t rate repeat.
This is just a continuation of that strategy after a slight diversion.
Is Rove still relevant ?
You’d hope the strategy has changed because their last 2 strategies have been total failures.
Why would anyone believe them when they sprout their virtues. It’s depressingly funny
Yeah advertisers love investing their money based on ‘how the show sounds’ versus ratings.
That’s new
Yawn. Next.
Colin, I think he is trying to say that if they get the sound right then the ratings will follow. I don’t know the bloke but I’m told he is pretty much the main programming man going around so I reckon he may just know a thing or two about it…..
Might as well give it a shot. Couldn’t hurt …..except for the $2.1.
Gee, this could almost be as successful as the return of Hamish and Andy. Oh, hold on…
