The Wolverine tops Aussie box office

The WolverineFox’s The Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman, Australia’s favourite celebrity as judged by this year’s Encore Score, has topped the local box office taking $6,112,500 in its opening weekend.

The film opened on 578 screens, taking an average of $10,575 per screen.

Also opening this weekend was Roadshow’s Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra in which Michael Douglas and Matt Damon play gay lovers. The film took $604,913 across 104 screens while Studio Canal’s The Way Way Back made $95,031 in its opening weekend on 118 screens.
