TikTok given chance to appeal US ban
The US Supreme Court has agreed to consider an appeal by TikTok and its parent company ahead of a proposed ban of the app.
Per CNN, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear TikTok and Chinese internet tech company ByteDance’s argument that the ban is a violation of the First Amendment, with the platform arguing that it poses no threat to US security.
The US House of Representatives first passed a bill in March pushing for TikTok to be banned in the United States due to concerns that the globally popular app poses national security risks. The bill called for ByteDance to sell its stake or face a total ban.
However on Wednesday, the Supreme Court agreed to expedite the case and will hear the arguments on January 10.
