TvCentral closes after data disaster
Australian television industry website TvCentral has decided to shut its doors a week after a server migration saw all of its data lost in the process.
Owner Aaron Ryan said in a statement: “I have a second job outside TvCentral and aside from sleeping and eating, I have spent every ounce of free time on the site and quite frankly it was a little unhealthy”.
Ryan said that he would now focus on getting a job within the TV industry instead of writing about it. He said: “My real passion is programming, scheduling and formats and working within the programming department at a network would be a special dream come true and that is where my expertise lie. In my role at TvCentral I am essentially a journalist or a blogger and whilst I am showcasing my dreams though the website, I am not actually living the dream.”
Ryan also said that he was withdrawing his threat of legal action against hosting service Ventra IP.
Has there been any official statement from VentraIP on this?
January 20th? Has this update been lost?
Hi OS,
My bad – now amended to February…
Cheers,
Tim – Mumbrella
It seems relatively clear to me, from having read the e-mails, that VentraIP was largely at fault. Yes, he should have had backups, but at the same time VentraIP consultants told him to disable the account without adequately understanding what was going on.
If in doubt, do nothing.
