UK radio star Christian O’Connell to take over Gold FM breakfast
UK radio personality Christian O’Connell will be the new host of Gold FM breakfast in Melbourne.
O’Connell – who was the youngest radio presenter to ever be inducted into the UK Radio Hall of Fame – replaces Gold FM’s Jo Stanley and Anthony ‘Lehmo’ Lehmann who were axed in November last year.
Jo & Lehmo’s last survey of the year saw them improve 0.7 points to an 8.4% audience share, making them the most-listened to Melbourne FM breakfast show. Their departure was announced shortly afterwards.
They say ARN’s recent desicions are “risky”. I say they are downright insane. It’s not a national content strategy – it’s a Sydney & Melbourne content strategy, the other 3 just get lumped with it because they are a “network” and they sound rediculous. Do you know how weird it is to have ABBA’s “Mamma Mia” play during Will & Woody? Brisbane listeners do…
A big loss to the UK but a huge gain to Australia. Christian O’Connell is the best in the business. Pretty gutted, looks like I’ll have to tune in around 8pm UK time to hear him!
Isn’t it 5pm in the winter and 3pm in the summer. Funny thing is you can listen to oc at breakfast at the moment and dave berry home time then next winter it’s dave berry breakfast and oc home time lol
Wow, this is great news. Listened to OC on line here in Melbourne and his show was brilliant! Can’t wait for him to get here. I know Melbourne are going to be massive fans…..
Not too sure about that. He can be a [Edited under Mumbrella’s comment moderation policy] at times!
