Viral Linkedin post sparks career turnaround for Brisbane marketer after near-death ordeal
Lee Paton
A digital marketer who spent nine months out of work following a near-death experience has secured a new role just 24 hours after a candid Linkedin post asking for help sparked an outpouring of industry support.
Lee Paton, formerly digital marketing and CRM lead for Anglicare Southern Queensland, suffered a perforated bowel from a routine colonoscopy last year that left him hospitalised, attached to an ileostomy bag and unable to work for more than eight months.
By September, Paton had recovered and was ready to return to marketing, but with applications going nowhere, he took shifts at a bottleshop to support his pregnant wife Kelly and two-year-old daughter.
Amazing story – well done, Lee! Unfortunately LinkedIn has become such an endless stream of recycled garbage takes, slop posts, and promoted junk from charlatans selling magic beans (step-by-step courses), that the entire purpose of a professional networking site (like what this guy used it for) has gone completely out the window. Absolute dumpster fire of a place.
LinkedIn is NOT Instagram
A wonderful story, thank you for sharing it.
