Voyages Tourism unveils mural celebrating 10 years of Field of Light via Spark Foundry Australia

Voyages Tourism Australia has unveiled a large-scale mural in Melbourne to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Field of Light installation at Uluru. The mural, created by First Nations artists Valerie Brumby and Alex Kerr, offers a multisensory experience that reflects the beauty and cultural significance of the original artwork.

The announcement:

Voyages Tourism Australia, operators of Ayers Rock Resort, have today revealed a large-scale mural in Melbourne to mark the 10th anniversary of Field of Light, the internationally renowned immersive installation at Uluru.

With planning, booking and organisation by Spark Foundry Australia, the mural brings acclaimed light artist, Bruce Munro’s Field of Light to the city through the collaborative vision of First Nations artists Valerie Brumby and Alex Kerr, and with on-site assistance from Apparition Media.

Imagined at scale by Wurundjeri muralist Alex Kerr, the mural is an interpretation of a bespoke painting by Anangu artist of Walkatjara Art, Valerie Brumby. The Anangu are the Traditional Owners of Uluru, and the original artwork reflects Field of Light through Brumby’s own eyes, drawing upon lived experience, story and connection to Country.

With Kerr and Brumby working in close collaboration throughout the process, the mural offers the audience a glimpse of the Uluru installation’s beauty, inviting them to visit the striking art experience inspired by desert wildflowers blooming after rain.

Located at the corner of Swan and Carroll Street, Richmond, the mural offers viewers a multisensory experience, complemented by immersive audio that encapsulates the sounds of the desert, transporting them momentarily to the landscape and atmosphere of Central Australia.

Its background, envisioned by Kerr, is a representation of Wurundjeri country, with the Waa (crow) and Bunjil (Eagle). Bunjil is the creator of Country and Waa is the protector, making these figures highly important to the Wurundjeri people and ensuring the safety and protection of Brumby’s story and artwork.

Ana Sofia Ayala, Chief Revenue & Marketing Officer at Voyages Tourism, said: “This mural is a powerful way to mark ten years of Field of Light. Valerie and Alex have created something that not only reflects the beauty of the installation at Uluru, but also the depth of story and connection behind it. We’re proud to help share this moment with Melbourne and to celebrate the artists who made it possible.”

Alex Brown, Client Partner at Spark Foundry Australia, said: “It’s an honour to have been involved in such an inspiring work of art. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do – and how meaningful it is to contribute to a thought-provoking piece that genuinely adds to our community.”

The mural will be on display until 18 April 2026, with Brumby’s original painting to be then permanently exhibited at the Gallery of Central Australia (GoCA), Ayers Rock, Uluru.
