WA and SA paper sales slump, as magazine market continues its decline

Newspaper sales in WA are having a nightmare, according to new figures released today by the Audit Bureau of Circulation.

News Ltd’s Perth-based Sunday Times is down 5.9% on a year before, while the weekday West Australian, now under the control of Kerry Stokes, is down by 2.7%.

There are also problems for newspapers in Adelaide, where News Ltd’s Adelaide Advertiser is down 4.4% on weekday sales, while the group’s Sunday Mail is down 5.2%.

But elsewhere, newspaper circulations appear to be relatively steady. The Australian, also owned by News Ltd,  saw a modest increase, up 1.5% from 135,000 to 137,000.
