Watchdog ACMA launches new interactive guide to media ownership in Australia
Media watchdog the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has launched a new interactive guide to media ownership in Australia.
The online map charts the locations of major media enterprises and provides details of the various enterprises with clear geographic and media breakdowns of the interests of media moguls, like Rupert Murdoch, Lachlan Murdoch, Bruce Gordon, Kerry Stokes, John Singleton and Bill Caralis.
“This is interesting because it confirm what we all knew”, said Peter Fray head of the UTS School of Journalism. “It shows how concentrated our media ownership is in this country.
You’ve left off a couple of key players in the radio world. Ace radio group? Capital radio? Resonate? ARN?
Thanks RadioNerd for your feedback on the Media Interests snapshot. As we indicate in the feedback FAQ on our website, the snapshot focuses on the major media players and is not intended to be a comprehensive account of media interests in Australia. In order to maximise the utility of the snapshot, we have not included smaller media networks such as ACE Radio, Capital Radio Network and so on, because to do so would have made the graphic too complex.
You mention the link of Rupert Mudoch and Lachlan Murdoch’s interest, what about the links with Lachlan’s mother Anna owning Hot Tomato on the Gold Coast, or Rupert’s niece owning Ace Radio?
