Webby Awards for Tourism Australia and Lonely Planet
Tourism Australia’s web site has picked up a trophy at The Webbys, arguably the Internet’s most famous awards event.
The australia.com site – designed by The White Agency – was the People’s Voice Winner in the Tourism category of The Webbys, which were announced earlier today, Australian time.
The Webby Awards have run for more than a decade. One of their unique points is that when winners make acceptance speeches they are limited to just five words. In 2005, failed presidential candidate Al Gore’s was “Please don’t recount this vote.”
Tonight White Agency boss Miles Joyce said: “Had a taste? Come walkabout.”
It’s a shame we only got two winners there was quite a few aussie noms this year.

It would have been better had the winners won the judged Webbys, instead of the People’s Voice winners, which are popularity contests. Kind of like winning a Logie.

I think James’ point raises an important question, when your work is developed to appeal to consumers what award should be more valued, an experts opinion or the opinion of the very people that you wanted to connect and engage?
