West Australian Newspapers set to cut staff

West Australian Newspapers is cutting staff just one month after parent company Seven West Media revealed it would be buying News Corp’s Perth masthead The Sunday Times.

According to a report in The Australian, the redundancies were revealed in an email to staff from WAN CEO, Chris Wharton, who said the business faced challenges from an unstable economic environment and changes to the media industry.

“These changes will mean a number of positions across the organisation will become redundant,” Wharton said, in the email.
