Which TV station did Aussies tune into for the Harris v Trump debate?

The Harris v Trump debate aired across all five main free-to-air channels, as well as on Sky News, and a number of the overseas news stations available through Foxtel. But which station won the ratings battle?

Despite the 11am airing time, and despite identical competition on numerous other channels, three different versions of the debate managed to enter the day’s Top 30 programs list, as per the VOZ Total TV daily report, with Harris v Trump sitting at #23, #27, and #28.

More Australians tuned into the ABC for the coverage than to its commercial counterparts, with the debate reaching 731,000 ABC viewers during its 90 minute run.

Nine’s simulcast was watched by 700,000 while Seven’s reached 680,000.

The average audience was also highest on ABC, sitting at 350,000 throughout the debate, compared to an average viewership of 341,000 on Nine, and 307,000 on Seven.

According to Reuters, 67.1 million viewers tuned into the debate in the US, far exceeding the 51 million people who watched Trump debate then-candidate President Joe Biden in June.
