The Wolf of Wall Street enjoys a big first weekend in the box office

The Wolf of Wall Street has dominated cinema on its opening weekend taking more than $5m, more than the next three films combined.

The three-hour long Roadshow film which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as controversial New York trader Jordan Belfort who made and lost a fortune in the 80s and 90s, took $5.137m in its opening weekend across 325 screens.

It’s nearest contender was Disney’s Frozen, which opened on Boxing Day took $2.097m, taking its total to $31.67m across the school holidays, while The Book Thief took $1.496m and Saving Mr Banks $1.409m over the long weekend.
