Women in Media launches annual survey, calls on industry feedback

Women in Media has opened its annual survey, seeking industry feedback from women in the media sector on issues including gender equality, career progression and access to support.
The organisation aims to improve diversity, equality and inclusion for all women across the industry, with the survey results pointing out key areas of improvement.
Last year’s survey found that 85% of women have continued to call for gender pay audits, with that number expected to rise this year after the WGEA released the gender pay gap data of Australia’s largest private companies.
Another 54% of women continued to be either unsure or dissatisfied with the progress of their careers, while 63% called for shadowing programs to provide access to leaders and hands-on learning.
Co-chair of Women in Media, Anita Jacoby AM, said the survey provides important data, and every survey response matters.
“You may be new to the industry or a veteran with years of expertise or somewhere in between. If so, your voice and views matter and Women in Media wants to hear them,” she said.
“The Women in Media survey lets you confidentially share your feedback about gender equality, career progress, and access to support and resources for women working in all roles and types of media.
“Your responses help Women in Media focus its efforts and build an inclusive and supportive community, creating connections, accelerating career development and maximising leadership potential for women working in all sectors of our media industry.”
In an effort to give back and create supportive environments to help women achieve professional success, Women in Media uses the survey results to provide targeted opportunities for upskilling and access to resources through mentoring, and industry programs and events.
Individual responses remain anonymous, but the survey findings will be released later this year to participants, the media, government and industry.
The survey closes April 19, 2024.
