Wonderland season 2 debut draws just 519,000
The debut of the second season of Ten drama series Wonderland drew just 519,000 metro viewers last night, well down on its 2013 debut which last year drew 948,000 viewers.
The result meant Wonderland did not even make the top 20 for the network with it shows The Project, The Bachelor, Ten Eyewitness News and Family Feud outrating it, despite being in the 8.30pm slot.
The Block Glasshouse was the biggest non-news show of the night with its first show at 7.30pm getting 1.024m viewers. A second show broadcasting in Sydney and Melbourne, ahead of the Thursday night NRL, got 432,000 viewers from 8.30pm, against the launch of the ABC’s new comedy Utopia which drew a solid 778,000 viewers, and Wonderland. The other markets had two reruns of the Big Bang Theory for the hour.
Wonderland was a dog last year so they decided for 2014 they would continue with the remainder of last year’s first series AND commission series 2. Surprise surprise it flopped again last night. Yet we know that a good local drama can maintain a network’s commercial credibility. You just need senior management to support them and to spend wisely. This latest act of complete stupidity should see heads roll and advertisers asking for full refunds. Why would anybody stick with this management? Can we see this debacle end quickly please?
Wonderland is such a crap program. It makes me embarrassed to live in Coogee!
Wonderland is almost as bad as Last Man Standing – an Australian TV show that first aired in 2005 and was rightfully cancelled after one season. Why don’t Australian producers and networks get it? All we want is the Australian equivalent of Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones. Simple really…
One thing I hate about this show is the lack of cultural diversity in the characters, we live in a multi cultural country yet most characters are stereotypical aussies (blonde hair, blue eyes), most of the population wouldn’t relate to.
